Aralia cordata Udo Japanese Spikenard
Sorry Sold Out for 2024
25 moist packed seeds packet.
A rarely offered, large growing perennial that is native to the woodlands of Japan, Korea and Eastern China. Udo, as it is called in Japanese, is a mountain herb and its young shoots are foraged and eaten. Produces large, pinnate foliage and small, white, starry flowers that are followed by small, black berries. Height 2 to 3 metres. Humus rich, moist but well-drained soil in part to full shade. Perfect for the woodland garden. Hardy to -20C. Seed has been moist packed to preserve its viability (avoid purchasing from sellers who offer dried seeds as these will fail to germinate - seeds still contained in berries are however perfectly fine).
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Sow immediately upon receipt. Spread mixture in ziplock bag on top of a pot, cover thinly with compost or grit, press in gently and keep top of pot from drying out. Keep pot outdoors or in cold frame over winter. Seeds germinate in spring.
Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots for growing on.
