Growild Nursery is a small nursery located on a 250 year old farm in south-west Scotland that specialises in growing rare and unusual species plants, in particular hardy perennials from Japan, China and the Himalayas. We sell the largest selection of Asian Impatiens, Begonias and members of the Urticaceae family in the UK and have introduced numerous new and barely known species to a wider audience. Many of our plants have a medicinal or edible tradition and some are rarely grown British wildflowers that attract bees, butterflies and other insects.
Our customers have included the R.H.S., National Trust and botanical gardens, designers, cut flower growers and herbalists. Growild Nursery is a mail order business only but we make it very easy to buy from our website as we accept payment by debit or credit card. If an item says it's in stock then it is in stock!
We are a mail order business only and visits or orders for pick up from the nursery are not possible.

We do not buy in any plants or seeds for re-sale - everything is produced here completely from scratch, on site. We see this as a way to limit our carbon footprint.
Although we produce a wide variety of plant species, we are only a small business and can only produce limited quantities of each plant per year. This year we made the decision to only sell bare rooted plants in the future, from February to March each year, instead of growing plants in pots as this is more sustainable. All our packing materials are fully recyclable.
As we do not buy in seed and we only sell seeds collected from our own plants, we can guarantee the seed is fresh and that you will receive the correct species. Seed is collected all year round and fresh stock is added as soon as it ripens. We know from customer feedback that they experience excellent germination.
We are and have always been 100% peat-free. The compost we use is also suitable for vegan gardeners. We neither use any chemicals nor any other animal derived products on our plants and only seaweed fertilizer is used. Regarding pest control, the nursery's ethos is to create a healthy ecosystem where nature will take care of any problems.
Our office and propagators are powered by 100% renewable electricity that is also vegan (meaning no animal by-products such as slurry are used in generating it).

When we moved to the farmhouse to expand the nursery, the grounds were overgrown with weeds and littered with farming detritus. We are still busy improving the grounds and have great plans for the future. You can read more about how we started the nursery and the ethos behind what we do in the special 'Wild' Summer 2023 issue of Gardens Illustrated Magazine.
Early on we made the decision to turn the over-grazed field into a meadow and now nature is really beginning to reclaim the land. It is amazing to watch the progression of the wild orchids as they seed into the meadow.
Another reason for moving here was to carefully manage the farm’s 5 acre woodland in order to protect the flora and fauna that live there.
