Berkheya cirsiifolia
25 seeds per packet.
A rarely grown, perennial species from South Africa in the Asteraceae family. Produces clumps of attractive, very spikey foliage and large, pure white, daisy flowers with a brown and yellow centre. Fantastic plant for bees and other insects. Leave the seeds heads on the plants for winter interest. Flowering June to September. Height 60 cm. Very well-drained soil in sun to light shade with protection in winter in colder climates. It has proven fully hardy with us in south west Scotland.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Sow from March to June. Cover seed thinly, press in gently and keep top of compost from drying out. Keep pot warm at 15 to 20°C until germination, then move to somewhere cooler.
Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots to grow on.
