10 seeds per packet.

The seeds offered originate from a seed collection from the Czech Republic. This herbaceous perennial in the Asteraceae family is native to rocky, dry areas in central and southern Europe, has smooth, greyish-green leaves and produces violet-blue flowers, which are a favourite with bees from April to August. This wild lettuce has an abundant white latex (hence the Latin name of the species, lactuca, meaning milk) containing the substance lactucarium which has many medicinal properties but the plant should be used with caution. Height 60 cm. Well-drained soil in sun.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:

Sow from March to June. Cover seed thinly, press in gently and keep top of compost from drying out. Keep pot warm at 15 to 20°C until germination, then move to somewhere cooler.

Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots to grow on.
