A hardy, perennial species collected originally from China (it has been slowly introduced into cultivation by collectors over the past few years). This form used to go under the name of Impatiens omeiana Form 3 but was rather aptly named by Derick Pitman (aka Mr. Impatiens) in recent times. It spreads by rhizomes and produces amazing, green leaves with a central band of metallic silver that makes it look like it’s been hit by a bolt of lighting. Large white and pale yellow-orange, orchid-like flowers with curling spurs appear from September into October. Height 40 cm. Moist, humus rich, well-drained soil in part to full shade in a cool position. Hardy to -15 C (possibly more) in the ground with a winter mulch but if pot grown it requires full protection from frosts.
