A perennial that is rare in cultivation and is native to Japan. Produces divided foliage and tall, scabious-like, creamy white flowers with black stamens, held on erect stems, that bees and butterflies adore. The root of the plant is used in Chinese medicine. Flowering July to August. Height 2 m. Sun to light shade in deep, rich, moist but well-drained soil.
