Podophyllum peltatum American Mandrake / Mayapple
A native perennial of woodlands in Canada and America, where it forms colonies via its creeping rhizomes. Two umbrella-like leaves on 30 cm tall stems produce a single, pure white, nodding flower in the fork of the leaves in May followed by large green fruits (these should not be eaten as they are toxic). Height to 40 cm. Cool, leafy soil in part shade.
