Oenanthe pimpinelloides W&B-BG-B-10
25 seeds per packet.
A delightful, clump forming perennial Umbellifer native to both the wet and dry grasslands of Europe and collected on the Bulgarian/Turkish border. Like Pignut (Conopodium majus) it produces small, edible tubers that are nutty and sweet tasting, and finely divided, semi-evergreen foliage. Extremely pretty, tightly packed, white domes of flower heads (which have lacier outer florets) are carried on erect, slender, long stems through the summer. An airy plant adored by insects and suitable for naturalistic planting schemes. Height to 1 metre. Adaptive to most soils from moisture retentive to drier soils in sun to part shade.
This particular collection is wrongly named in horticulture as both Seseli libanotis W&B-BG-B-10 and Seseli montanum W&B-BG-B-10. Seseli libanotis and S. montanum are very different species.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Sow upon receipt (best in autumn). Cover seed thinly, press in gently and keep top of compost from drying out. Keep pot outdoors or in cold frame over winter. Seeds germinate in spring.
Alternatively, if seeds can’t be sown in autumn use the following method: mix seeds with damp vermiculite and place inside a ziplock bag, keep bag somewhere warm for 3 weeks, then place in fridge (not freezer) for 8 weeks. Next spread mixture on top of a pot, thinly cover with compost or grit and keep warm at 15 to 20°C until germination, then move to somewhere cooler.
Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots for growing on.
