Sanguisorba officinalis 'Xinzhou Black' W/O-0126
20 seeds per packet.
The seeds we offer have been harvested from a plant grown by us from seed collected from Xinzhou, Shanxi, China, which is more distinctive in colour. Produces clumps of attractive, serrated foliage and tall, upright stems carrying heads of deep burgundy, almost black, bottlebrush flowers in summer into autumn. A fantastic plant for pollinators. Height 1.2 m. Well-drained, moisture retentive soil in sun to semi-shade. It comes true from seed and can flower in its first year.
We previously sold this as Sanguisorba officinalis Deep Burgundy Black Form but we wanted to give it a name to differentiate it from the other forms of the species.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Sow from March to June. Cover seed thinly, press in gently and keep top of compost from drying out. Keep pot warm at 15 to 20°C until germination, then move to somewhere cooler.
Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots to grow on.
