A hardy, perennial species that is native to the forests of the Himalayas. Forms quite a busy plant and produces the most unusual, upturned, bright yellow, orchid-like flowers with long curling spurs and red speckled throats. Leaves are dark green and red tinged with scalloped edges. Flowering is very prolific from May all the way to October. Moist, humus rich, well-drained soil in part to full shade in a cool position. Can be pot grown or planted in the garden. Hardy to -15C (possibly more) in the ground with a winter mulch. If pot grown, it requires full protection from frosts.
