An ornamental, deciduous shrub that is native to western China. Produces attractive, large, round lobed leaves (which have lovely autumn colours) at alternating angles on very long, completely thornless, cane-like stems. Pink-purple flowers are followed by edible, black berries. Height 3 metres. Well-drained, moisture retentive soil in sun to part shade in a sheltered position.
