A deciduous, upright, multi-stemmed, woody shrub that is native to China. Produces attractive, lance-shaped foliage and beautiful, horizontal to nodding, single, cup-shaped, rich dark maroon flowers that are 10 cm across with yellow stamens, followed by stunning seed pods. Flowering May. Height 2 metres. Moisture retentive, well-drained soil in sun to part shade.
