Probably a new, undescribed species of Salvia collected from the Singalila Ridge near Darjeeling, Northern India at 3175m by Sally Goddard, Bleddyn & Sue Wynn-Jones. A robust perennial, producing upright spikes of large, purple flowers, marked with white on the lips and showy, dark purple bracts. Flowering June to August. Height 100 cm. Fantastic plant for bees and other insects. Well-drained, humus rich soil in part sun to part shade.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Can be sown from autumn to June. Cover seed thinly, press in gently and keep top of compost from drying out. Keep pot cool over winter. Keep warm at 15 to 20°C in spring until germination, then move to somewhere cooler.
Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots to grow on.
