Boehmeria japonica var. tenera
50 seeds per packet.
This is a stunning foliage plant that is native to Japan and Korea, with triangular, toothed leaves and narrow, upright, pinkish, pipe cleaner-like flowers that are held on attractive red stems in the autumn. A member of the Urticaceae family that neither stings nor spreads. Height up to 60 cm. Moist but well-drained, humus rich soil in part shade.
Boehmeria japonica var. tenera is very often confused with other plants in cultivation and is often sold incorrectly as Boehmeria tricuspis or Boehmeria tricuspis 'Red Form' (Boehmeria tricuspis is a different plant altogether).
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Sow from March to June. Surface sow small seeds thinly, press in gently and keep top of pot moist. Keep pot warm at 15 to 20°C until germination, then move to somewhere cooler.
Carefully prick out seedlings when they have developed true leaves and are large enough to transplant to individual pots to grow on.
