A hardy, perennial species, very rare in cultivation, collected by Charles Boulanger in Yunnan, China. Forms quite a tall plant and produces the most unusual, long spurred, white, yellow and red and purple speckled flowers and glossy, dark green leaves with scalloped edges. Height 1 metre. Moist, humus rich, well-drained soil in part to full shade in a cool position. Can be pot grown or planted in the garden. Hardy to -12C (possibly more) in the ground with a winter mulch. If pot grown, it requires full protection from frosts.
