A hardy, perennial species collected originally from China. Spreads by rhizomes and produces amazing leaves with a band of metallic pink and silver dusting along the veins and dramatic deep maroon undersides. Large, yellow, orchid-like flowers with curling spurs appear from August into October. Height 40 cm. Moist, humus rich, well-drained soil in part to full shade in a cool position. Hardy to -15 C (possibly more) in the ground with a winter mulch. If pot grown it requires full protection from frosts.
