Hemiboea strigosa PB Available May/June
A rare, hardy, herbaceous member of the Gesneriaceae family. This collection by Patrick Blanc comes from China where it grows in valley forests. Produces succulent, glossy foliage, stems mottled in purple and tubular, pink flowers with reddish-purple spotting inside. Spreads to form good sized clumps via rhizomes buried just under the soil surface. Flowering September to October. Height 20 to 40 cm. Part to full shade in a sheltered position in humus rich, moist, well-drained soil. Hardy to -12 C. This plant is wrongly sold by some nurseries as Hemiboea subcapitata - which is a completely different looking species!
