A rarely encountered foliage plant from Japan that forms good ground cover once established. ‘Teeth of Kyoto’ (Dents de Kyoto) is a selection made by Patrick Blanc from the forests of Honshu that has leaves with more pronounced teeth than those of the species. Produces arching stems with attractive, long-toothed foliage and clusters of very small, white flowers from the leaf axils, followed by purple bulbils (these fall to the ground to produce more plants). The species is eaten as a wild vegetable in Japan. A member of the Urticaceae family that does not sting. Height 20 to 30 cm. Moist but well-drained, humus rich soil in part to full shade.
