Brought back from Honshu, Japan by Patrick Blanc, this is an attractive and highly aromatic plant for pond margins or wet woodland gardens, commonly called Chinese Lizard’s Tail. It is native to the riverbanks, marshes and swampy forested areas of China, Japan, Korea and India. Its ribbed, ovate, green, top-most leaves are often mottled with white and its minute, fragrant, ivory-white to yellowish-white flowers appear in slender, tapered, terminal racemes from late June to August. Spreads by creeping, underground rhizomes. Height 45 to 60 cm. Moisture retentive soil in full sun to part shade.
