Leuzea conifera Pinecone Thistle [Ex. Cévennes 1050 m., France]
The plants we offer have been grown from seed collected in Cévennes, France at 1050 metres. Native to Spain, Italy, Morocco and Tunisia, where it can be found in dry scrub, open pinewoods and amongst rocks, this unusual perennial gets its common name from the similarity its eye-catching flower head of papery, white and brown bracts bears to a small pine cone. This is topped by a purple floret in late spring and summer. Its narrow leaves are thistle-like but thornless, the undersides and stem are white felted. Height 30 cm. Sun to part shade in well-draining soil.
